Dr. Simon Tam has an idea of cross-training security personnel to be EMTs; I think this is a good thought.

Details can be worked out. Ultimately, what's important is keeping people alive, and since we're often the first responders, it makes sense. I can tell him he has our support?

With respect, I'm going to decline to pass that along.

First, even if it were a stupid idea, he approached me quite politely and reasonably; I'm not going to respond to that with rudeness. Second, even if it were a stupid idea, it would still be one that fosters interdepartmental cooperation - something we have need of around here; we're harming ourselves and others by keeping to our own little corners, and if we cross over into others' then we'll be better and stronger for it. Third, even if it were a stupid idea, the fact remains that it's an idea and preserving the status quo certainly isn't helping anyone.

Finally, and most importantly: it's not a stupid idea. It's a very, very good one. Security is on the front lines; doctors aren't, and they shouldn't be.

He knows that already, I'm sure, and saying it like that makes it sound like you're scoffing at his skills of observation or condescending to him.

[He frowns a bit at that. If there's one thing he doesn't expect from Tyke, it's her worrying about whether or not he's okay with something. So his response is relatively measured:]

It hardly matters whether I do or not; you're the head of security, and I follow your orders. That said, no; I don't mind speaking on others' behalf. Ultimately, that's what lawyers do.

[Not particularly like her to beat around the bush. He frowns slightly...but is also somewhat hopeful. One could not help but feel a sense of trepidation faced with such evasiveness - but, on the other hand, he likes having something to do.]

Go on.

[He taps his fingers slightly, frowning. Then:]

Do you want me to whitewash it and make people feel better? Or do you want me to tell the truth and take their vitriol?

I suppose you would, though for what it's worth, you shouldn't. It's far more important that they trust you than they trust me.

Still; that answers my question. I'm not going to outright lie to them, just so you know. I'll phrase it as positively as I can, but I won't conceal the truth.

They do that for journalists, who understand that a source can refuse to give information and are bound by rules of journalistic integrity. That won't be acceptable here; they'll need answers for everything. I'll make sure they have them.

We'd do a damn sight better if people would stop withholding evidence/information. Can I include a discussion of that idiocy?

I'll do that.

It's not just her, though. It's systemic, Tyke, and it hamstrings us. We can't do anything when they hoard evidence like it's a souvenir.

If you want something with graphic design to it, you'll want to call in someone else. I'll do an advertisement, but it won't be fancy.

And I don't intend to harangue them. All I want to do is to point out that if they want to see justice done for their friends/acquaintances, they're hampering that by hoarding evidence.
